IMG_0058 IMG_0059 IMG_0060

This is RHD 6,3 #2206 . The engine is incomplete and the drivers side sill/rocker Β is rotten but the rest of the car is surprisingly sound but in need of a full restoration .RHD 6.3’s are too rare to part out and i would rather restore this car anyway….. or build a historic racer for weekend fun.

250 SE mercedes W108 taken for a test drive

it was a nice sunny day so I took Tonys car for a tst drive to finalise any niggling problems and bed in the new brakes…unfortunately the booster decided it as time to pack it in.

It’s a pretty special example being an earlier example with alot of parts being the same as the W111 series.Β IMG_0037 IMG_0038 IMG_0040 IMG_0042 (1) IMG_0043 (1) IMG_0044 IMG_0045 IMG_0047 IMG_0035

250SE ..nearly finished

it’s taken me four weeks to get the diff back in this early 250SE ..waiting for a part to come from Germany

Mercedes Benz 300SEL 6.3 repair a few electrical gremlins.

I’m sorting a few things, no heater light, clock stopped working ,flasher too fast ,speedo stopped working and one or two the tasks. But it still involves pulling most of the dash apart to access the faults. I’ve already found some dodgy parts which have to be replaced to get everything working again.

Mercedes Benz 250SE

IMG_0031it’s a bit hard to see ,but this is a picture of the injection pump where the dipstick screrws in. Oil is pouring out …not a good sign as this means the injection pump is in need of a reseal It’s working well at the moment so it will be sorted out later on. It will just have to drained every 1000 miles.

IMG_0043 IMG_0025The battery is a lot larger than original so i have made the top securing bracket longer. It’s shown here in etch primer to followed by semi gloss black . the somewhat blurry pic is of the option plate ..

600 restoration

TatraPlan engine work.

Although I’m not doing any actual work on this engine,I have been asked to give the cases a clean up.

As can be seen ,it’s just like a Giant Volkswagon Β beetle engine. πŸ™‚

Mercedes Benz W108 250 S recommissioning

A few dodgy things have been uncovered on this car ,such as the gear shift wired together …..

IMG_0013

And a plastic hose wired on for the pressure line to the fuel filter…..

IMG_0014

A great score!

For my own 6.3 I needed a new radiator and had thought of eitherr making a newer one out of alloy but then i found this on ebay..

A brand new old stock 6.3 radiator for . Β Not $5000 AUD , Not $2500 USD as demanded for a new one but …………. $275. Β Still in it’s original box.

250SE recommissioning

Today (12/08/15) A new job arrived. A really early W108 250 SE . It wouldn’t start although it would turn over. The First job when ever starting a Mercedes that has sat for several years is drain Β the tank…

IMG_0469

IMG_0471

this 4 liters of rotten fuel in a 25 liter bucket… what a rotten stink! I hate this stuff!. The filter was pretty well blocked up. Thank fully a look inside the tank revealed it to be very clean despite sitting for several years.

IMG_0470

So that is replaced.

Next job,replace ALL of the rotten rubber fuel lines.Β IMG_0477 IMG_0478 IMG_0479

Followed by replacing the fuel filter..

IMG_0472 IMG_0473 IMG_0474 IMG_0475

I’m glad the filter was bravely trying to do it’s job πŸ™‚ .

Once this is out of the way,the tappets have been adjusted but the timing chain needs replacing .All compressions are equal at 150PSi, so far so good….. But the spark plugs, although they look new are all carboned up. Not a good look on a Mfi engine . The Air cleaner needs to be cleaned out and i doubt very much that the oil bath unit has been apart for many many years.

In the meantime a quick look under neath reveals more of the usual things, worn diff bushes everywhere ,spring mount rubbers flogged out and a very leaky diff.

IMG_0480 IMG_0482 IMG_0483

Note the rotten exhaust…nothing like a damp storage area to rot a steel muffler..
