About briskiwiron

i care for, maintain and restore Mercedes Benz Vehicles built before 1980 .

Mercedes 300SE Lang

The Front drivers side has a bit more rust repair required esecailly under the brake booster. The booster had to removed because of a lack of brakes.IMG_0093

This is the section under the brake booster ,the round hole is where the booster is mounted to the car . this sort of corosion is caused by leaking brake fluid removing the paint .

IMG_0095

This the front inner part under the positon where the air cleaner is mounted . Rust has eaten the inside of the upper chassis section out .

IMG_0092

And… the underside of the booster . No wonder the car was idling fast and without brakes.

the new doors are in process of being derusted .:-)

Nest step will etch priming then priming in preparation for paint.

The replaced left rear 1/4 is almost finished and all of the old paint has been removed . A lot of filler was under the paint so there were plenty of samll dents to be hammered out .

220SE Cabriolet Mercedes

Although this car has less than 100,000 miles on the clock ,the owner has decided that it needs an engine rebuild.

the oil filter had collapsed ,and thats never a good sign. Although the oil and filter had been changed frequently in the present owners hands.

Number five cylinder bore hyas some deep pitting as if it were rusted at some stage . The pistons are all standaqrd size (79.95 ) so the next job is too meaasure the bores and see what size Oversize pistons will work . The pitting is going to be a problem  though.  i only hope it’s not too deep .

Most of the rusty panels on the left side have now been removed with help from the oner,Phiol. Phil ha flown in from Western Australia to see how it’s done..

IMG_0085 (1)

the lower sections have to removed to get rid of all the rust and restore the Strength to the body.

IMG_0082 (1)IMG_0089 (1)

as can be seen the jack point is rotten with rust opening holes into the cars interior .

IMG_0086 (1)

the bottom of the wheel house wall is removed to gain access to the rust .

IMG_0087 (1)

the rusted parts are ground off to the edge of rust free metal

IMG_0088 (1)

IMG_0082

measn while in the Front the rusted parts have been sought out ,the left side is qite good (apart from the sill sections)

IMG_0083

On the Right side the booster will have to removed to get at the rust under it, leaking brake fluid has stripped off the paint and resulting moisture has attacked the steel.

IMG_0085

the bottom of the front chassis support will need to be replaced.

IMG_0089

In the left front guard it can be seen that the PVC undercoating covered everything, unlike lesser Finnys.

The fuel tank sender shows that it is basically shot.

W112 Mercedes 300SE Lang ( Long wheel base)

All the way from W.A is this horizon blue 300SE with some serious rust problems. Not so unusual in a finny but serious enough to require a lot of work to rectify.

IMG_0056 (1) IMG_0057 (1) left rear Jack point has basically rusted right away,as someone has found in the past when attempting to lif the car .

IMG_0058 (2) IMG_0059 (2)

Right

iIMG_0061 (2)Left rear boot box floor ,a normal rust spot and no worse than others .IMG_0062 (2) Rear box section ,no seriouis rust outs.
IMG_0069 (1) Right front chassis strengthening member rusted out . Rain water gets inside this section and if the lower drain holes are blocked, they eventually rust away . This particularly bad as that is the air cleaner visible in the center.

Steel spring installation where the air springs have been removed .

Mercedes Benz 250S for sale.

IMG_0053250 S in very straight condition. Been off the road since 2010 due to a minor fault. This is a project car and will require normal work to get registration etc . There is very little rust in the right front sill front and the rear boot box bottom, right hand side. IMG_0052

No rust in the doors or floors!! no dash cracks ,and the MBtex seats are still very good. Original boot mat is in very nice condition . IMG_0056IMG_0065 (1)IMG_0069IMG_0070IMG_0058 (1)IMG_0057IMG_0067 (1)IMG_0068 (1)IMG_0064 (1)IMG_0081IMG_0082IMG_0079IMG_0080IMG_0087IMG_0084IMG_0054IMG_0055IMG_0059 (1)IMG_0060 (1)IMG_0061 (1)IMG_0066 (1)IMG_0073IMG_0074IMG_0075IMG_0076IMG_0077IMG_0078IMG_0083IMG_0085IMG_0086IMG_0088IMG_0089IMG_0090IMG_0092IMG_0093IMG_0094IMG_0095IMG_0096IMG_0097IMG_0098IMG_0099IMG_0101IMG_0100IMG_0102IMG_0103IMG_0104IMG_0106IMG_0107IMG_0108IMG_0109IMG_0100IMG_0102IMG_0103IMG_0104IMG_0106IMG_0107IMG_0108IMG_0109IMG_0111IMG_0112IMG_0113IMG_0114IMG_0116IMG_0117IMG_0119IMG_0121

300SE project Engine examination and start up

I turned the blue 300SE’s engine over to see if it was OK,and all seemed well. i set the tappets and soaked the bores with a mix of 50/50 ATF and acetone . About 00Mls is enough for most engines spread across the cylinders . The injectors were cleaned and Phil, the owner had had the pump over hauled so that was reinstalled . I had a quick look at the twin point distributor but all was OK there too.  So…I hooked up the carbaclean machine to give me a fuel supply and gave it a crank to see what was what.. it runs a little rough but runs on all six despite a lot of smoke from the fluid that has leaked into the exhaust .

Mercedes 300 SE (Lang) W112 -015

All the way from Western Australia is this rare W112 015 Right hand drive 300SE. In for a restoration it is in quite reasonable condition,.only let down by the usual rust in the doors and sills. Suspension has been replaced by steel springs so that will have to addressed and the injection is off the engine.
